Chris's Google Bombing Project on CNN

If this has already been diaried then my apologies. Just let me know and I'll delete this. But Chris Bowers' Google-bombing project was just on CNN's Situation Room in a little segment by one of their two "Blog Experts", Jackie Schecter. I made a couple of screen captures and posted them below.

She said that Google disapproved of this practice and said that it takes away from "organic search results". She also showed a screen from RedState where this project was criticized as a waste of time, but I didn't bother capturing that.

What the heck browser is that on for MyDD, where the "E-Wire 2008" is below the logo?

Re: Chris's Google Bombing Project on CNN (none / 0)

It almost looks like they pasted it into whatever graphics program they use for production.

Maybe they're forced to use Netscape.

I have that configuration. (none / 0)

Internet Explorer.  I know, I know, I have to upgrade to a browser that doesn't suck.

Re: I have that configuration. (none / 0)

I use IE 6 too and this is how it appears on my browser. I also use a PC, not a Mac!

Yeah, I know, it's evil and Republican and I'm clearly a troll blah blah blah.

But I'm lazy and still haven't bothered to switch to Firefox. And old habits die hard...

Btw, MyDD is easily one of the most IE6-unfriendly web sites I visit. I often have to make it full-screen to be able to use it. Otherwise, I can't see much of the content or have to scroll way down to see it, and can't click on links.

Re: I have that configuration. (none / 0)

If you're going to use IE, at least do yourself a favor (a big favor) and upgrade to IE 7. MyDD loads just fine in IE 7 for me.

Re: I have that configuration. (none / 0)

I know it was just released. Is it fairly bug-free and secure, and not slower than 6? I hate jumping into just-released products and serving as a de facto post-beta tester.

Get It For Free (none / 0)

Good Lordy!!! I'm still on '98, and my next move will definitely be to Debian Linux. So why would I not be using Firefox, which I will need for the Linux? (K-Meleon is also a great free browser.) After Debian gets fried, I will go to Debian Hurd, which avoids malware by having a tiny
micro-kernel(the '.exe' that runs everything else). That way, things like drivers won't get sucked into the bloated master kernel program, where nothing can get at them. If you're going to go to Vista, try to get your Army recruiter to toss it in as a "benefit."

Re: I have that configuration. (none / 0)

I tried the IE 7 beta on a whim and it was slow as molasses.

The release version isn't bad.  Pretty good for M$.

Re: I have that configuration. (none / 0)

I just saw on CNET that if you have both IE7 and Firefox2 installed, a strange error occurs. Not that Microsoft would ever deliberately do such a thing...

I know this is petty and completely unrelated, but that woman has really bad posture.

Re: Chris's Google Bombing Project on CNN (none / 0)

She's tall, thin and lanky, and has the sort of posture that many people like this tend to have. In any case, I happen to find her attractive, although her voice can be a bit grating at times--nasal and whiney, like the Janice character on Friends (who, oddly, has similar physical features).

And yes, this is petty and completely unrelated, including my response. ;-)

Both of the computer assistants on Wolf's program are British, I think. I found that Abbie (the other internet assistant) is a graduate of Leeds University, for example. I heartily dislike both their accents.

Re: Chris's Google Bombing Project on CNN (none / 0)

No way is Schecter British, unless she moved to the US as a small child or had lots of accent lessons--and no one in their right mind works to get rid of a British accent (well, at least the more urbane kind), let alone to end up with her nasal tonality. I grew up in NYC, and her accent is clearly east coast urban or suburban upper middle class, most likely in the NYC area, but possibly DC or Philadelphia.

I like that kind of posture. But then again I'm pretty close to her age.

No it isn't dishonest (none / 0)

It also isn't a waste of time.  Chris isn't encouraging us to hang made up shtuff around their necks, just their own well-deserved bad press.  I write about Larry Kissell all the time and whenever I write about Robin Hayes it is inevitable that I mention CAFTA.  I have used the chosen links several times.  What's a waste of time about naturally including it in diaries I write anyway.  I also added it to my signature for good measure.

Damn good tactics (3.00 / 2)

And that's what we're fighting folks, a war.  A big damn fight to take back our country.  They don't like our generals tactics, too bad!  We are using every tool available to us, and showing people the real issues.  Not the "fear" issues used to get their base to vote.  IMHO, those are the dirty, misleading, dishonest tactics being used against progressives.

Dems = show them the negatives about the conservative candidates

Repubs = make up lies and scare them into voting for you

Which America do you want?

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Re: Damn good tactics (none / 0)

I want an America where I can go a whole week without blogging or following the news and not feel like I'm missing something!

Obviously, this is not possible with Repubs in charge.

Re: Chris's Google Bombing Project on CNN (none / 0)

I'm just shocked, shocked, I say. The possibility that people will use the "internets" and not talking head hand-wringing cable network pundits to get information. The thought never occurred to me. At all.
